Karachi: Warrants out against 2 FIA officials
KARACHI: A drugs court on Saturday issued warrants for the arrest of two officials of the Federal Investigation Agency and one official of the Sukkur police for failing to appear in court to testify in two cases pertaining to the sale of unauthorised drugs.
Inspector Mohammad Ali Abro and Sub-Inspector Abdul Rauf Shaikh of the FIA were prosecution witnesses in a case against accused Zia-ur-Rehman and others, who were arrested in the parking lot of a hotel in Feb 2007 by the FIA, which claimed to have recovered smuggled drugs from their vehicle and in a house in Nazimabad.
In the second case, the then SHO of the Sukkar police station, Anees Ahmed, along with a drug inspector raided a medical store in Sukkur in Jan 2010 and recovered unregistered Indian drugs.
All the officials failed to appear in court to record their statements despite repeated notices, reminders and warrants issued by the court for the past couple of months.
The three-member drugs court headed by Sathi Ishaq issued non-bailable warrants against the two FIA officials through their director till March 17. A non-bailable warrant for the arrest of the then SHO was also issued through the Sukkur SSP till March 15.
The drugs court directed the authorities to arrest them and produce them in court on next hearings.
