Karachi: 5 gunned down in separate incidents
KARACHI: Five people, including an aged man, were killed in separate incidents in the metropolis on Monday. Usmanul Haq, 60, was shot dead in a mini-bus near the Essa Nagri bus stop and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre. Police said that three armed men had boarded the mini-bus (X-23) near Hassan Square and were looting passengers when Haq resisted. The robbers shot him dead and escaped.
The police said Haq was going home after work when the incident took place. He was a resident of FB Area. An FIR has been lodged and an investigation is under way. In another incident, Ashfaq was gunned down after a heated argument with his nephew in the Moin Market area of Saddar.
Police reached the spot on a tip-off and found a mob beating a man, Zafar, while the unconscious Ashfaq was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigations showed that Ashfaq, who was a shopkeeper, had come to the Moin Market for some work, when his nephew, Zafar, came and started an argument with him over some property.
The conversation turned bloody when amidst the heated altercation Zafar shot his uncle. He tried to flee the scene but was caught by traders and passers-by and was beaten to a pulp. The police later took him to the police station. The victim is survived by a wife and children. Further investigations are under way.
In yet another incident, Mohammad Idress died when motorcyclists opened fire at him. The incident took place on Rehri Road, Gulshan-i-Bonair. Police said that the victim was a labourer and resident of Quaidabad.
The News has learnt that Idrees suffered several bullet wounds. He had divorced his wife a few months back due to which an enmity had been running between the two families. Moreover, the victim hailed from the Hazara division where a dispute over land was left unsettled. Police said they were investigating the case from both angles.
On Monday night, Asif Butt was shot dead in Clifton’s Block 2. He was near his house when two motorcyclists shot him. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He had suffered a single bullet in his head.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Younus of the Boat Basin police station said they were still ascertaining the motive behind the murder. Butt was a senior employee at Warid Telecom. He has left behind two children and a widow.
In a separate incident, Haji Ishrat was gunned down in the SITE-A police limits. The incident took place near Khattak Chowk. During investigations, it was found that Ishrat had been a spare parts dealer in the SITE area. He was killed near his house, while he was on his way back from work.
