Karachi: Man, sister who faked kidnapping arrested
KARACHI: Police raided a house in Saeedabad on Tuesday morning and recovered and arrested a 24-year-old man and his teenage sister who had fooled their family into believing that they had been kidnapped. SP Ghulam Subhani of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell said that a case had been lodged by one Syed Humayun at the Garden police station last week, saying that his son, Bilal, and daughter, Ramiya Noor, were abducted in the area for ransom.
During investigation, it transpired that the “kidnapping victims” were being held in a house in Saeedabad. SP Subhani said that the house was raided, but the personnel of the AVCC were shocked to see that Bilal and his sister Ramiya were not being held by anyone.
The two were shifted to the investigation unit where Bilal disclosed that his family was not letting his sister Ramiya marry and so they planned their escape and fool their family into believing that they were kidnapped. Bilal had wished to get the ransom money which he would use for letting his sister marry the person of her choice.
However, they were caught before things could go that far. SP Subhani said that his team conducted another raid in Sohrab Goth area in a separate case where after an encounter they arrested an absconding accused, Bangal Khan Mohmandani.
Police allegedly recovered a pistol from his possession. Two of Mohmandani’s accomplices, Jumman Burlo and Faiz Mohammed Jamali, had been arrested earlier. The accused used to kidnap people in the city and then move them to the jungles of Sukkur on oil tankers and on trucks carrying buffalos.
The accused were also allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a nephew of the chief justice of Sindh High Court as well as three bankers and a trader. The victims were freed from the captivity of the accused when Jumman Burlo and Faiz Mohammed Jamali were arrested earlier.
