Lahore: MNA acquitted
LAHORE: An Accountability Court on Wednesday acquitted PML-N MNA and former federal minister Rana Nazeer Ahmad from two references filed against him by National Accountability Bureau. According to NAB, MNA Rana Nazeer was charged with misappropriation of Rs 46.37 million which, he and his family were said to have made from public money. MNA had filed an acquittal application under 365-K of CrPC before the accountability court under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), saying after promulgation of ordinance reference against him had become infructuous (ineffective), so he might be acquitted.
The accountability court had accepted his application and acquitted Nazeer in the references. But the Supreme Court scrapped the NRO in December 2009 and the accountability court had reopened the reference in December 2009 from a stage where it was closed down after promulgation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance. However, on Wednesday, the court has acquitted him again.
