Lahore: Police capture robbers after brief encounter
LAHORE: Locals and the Sandah police arrested two alleged robbers, one of them in injured condition after a brief shootout, as they fled after snatching cash and a cell phone from a citizen near Bund Road on Sunday. Iqbal Town Operations SP Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani told Dawn that three robbers stopped Ashfaq and snatched from him Rs25,000 in cash and a cell phone at gunpoint.
One of the suspects was captured by locals in a chase, the second one fled while the third one who was equipped with a gun entered a nearby house, the SP said.
He said the police rushed to the spot in response to an emergency call, cordoned off Arshad’s house where the suspect was hiding and told him to surrender. But, the suspect opened fire on the police and tried to flee. However, some bullets fired by the police left him injured.
The SP said the suspect captured by locals was identified as Arif while the one injured in the shootout was identified as Akram and he was admitted to a local hospital with two bullet wounds to his leg.
He said the police also seized two pistols and looted cash and two cell phones from their possession.
