Karachi: Lyari gangster killed during police encounter
KARACHI: A bandit was gunned down in a brief encounter with the police on Thursday while he and his accomplices were trying to escape, after snatching a motorcycle. A 24–year–old Mukesh was killed after a shoot–out between his accomplices and a patrol squad of the Preedy police, near the Jamma Cloth Market.
Earlier, three men who were on foot, intercepted a motorcyclist, Danish, near the Tibet Centre. They snatched his two–wheeler at gunpoint and were speeding away when the police signalled them to stop. They paid no heed to the orders and were consequently chased by the law enforcers. Upon reaching the Jama Cloth Market, they started firing at the police vehicle.
A gun battle ensued and one of the suspects fell from the bike after getting hit by a bullet. The other two, however, managed to escape. The injured was taken to the Civil Hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. The police claimed that Mukesh was an active member of the Lyari gang war and had a criminal record.
Two die in accidents Two people died in road accidents on Thursday. Naheed, 40, wife of Zaheer, was crushed to death by a minibus near Old Golimar while crossing the road. She lived in the same area and was going to buy some household goods. Her body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
A young man died and two others were injured in a head-on collision in Manghopir. Salman, 30, died and Muhammad Ayaz and Muhammad Ghani were injured when their car collided with a mini–truck and overturned at the Northern Bypass. The body and injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, Sheraz and Furqan were injured when their jeep collided with a car on the Super Highway near the New Toll Plaza while they were returning to the city.
