Karachi: MQM worker gunned down in Surjani
KARACHI: A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead and a prayer leader was wounded in Surjani Town on Thursday. Police said Abdul Hafeez, a resident of Surjani Sector 50, was standing with friends in the main bazaar in Sector 36–A, Surjani Town, when three men arrived there and an altercation ensued.
The police said that during the heated argument, one of the suspects pulled out his pistol, shot and wounded Hafeez. A passer-by, Abdul Haleem, was also wounded in the firing. The three suspects escaped following the incident.
The wounded were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Hafeez died.
DSP Javed Abbas said the victim was an activist of the MQM’s Surjani sector and he owned a welding shop.
A police official said Abdul Haleem was the peshimam of Usman Mosque, situated in the same area where the incident took place, and his condition was out of danger.
Later police handed over the body to the family of the victim. No case was registered till late in the night.
