Lahore: Robbers killed 1, wounded 7 last week
LAHORE: Robbers killed a citizen and injured seven other people on offering resistance besides depriving over 150 citizens of cash, gold ornaments, valuables, cars and motorcycles worth millions of rupees during the last one week, despite tall claims of Lahore police for the protection of lives and properties of masses.
Operations Wing of Lahore police remains busy in devising security plans for VVIPs for the whole week and the robbers loot Lahorites to their satisfaction. On the other hand Investigation Wing of Lahore police blames Operations Wing for piling up cases of heinous crimes for them which makes it difficult for the investigation officers (IOs) to solve the cases. Some of the robbery victims get the cases registered while others prefer to stay at home due to the inefficiency of Lahore police. Investigation officers ‘force’ the complainants to visit police stations on daily basis without visiting crime scenes and collecting forensic and circumstantial evidence. Most of the IOs are still unaware of latest technology as compared to the organized gangs using latest techniques to loot valuables, including gold and cars.
Out of hundreds of robbery/theft victims, a few get the recovery of their loot. IOs mostly embezzle the recovered items. Recently, the naib reader of DSP Legal was caught red handed using a recovered car for the last many months.
On Friday, two robbers targeted a man and his uncle in Sandah, leaving one of them dead. The deceased person was identified as Muneer Ahmad and his nephew as Altaf.
The robbers had taken revenge from the shopkeepers as they had foiled their robbery bid a couple of days back. Police had impounded the bike of robbers but took no action against them which resulted in the tragic death of a shopkeeper.
The traders had also staged a massive protest against Lahore Police on their failure to control crimes. They were of the view that the police were busy in patronising drug pushing and brothels without caring about the lives and properties of people.
On the same day, two robbers intercepted a cash van in Faisal Town and left a cashier and van driver seriously wounded. Security guards retaliated in the same fashion and killed one of the robbers.
However, Faisal Town police, sitting at 100 yards distance of the crime scene, could not arrest escaping robber. Moreover, City Police Division was calculated on top in crime against property related incidents during the last week as one citizen was shot at and wounded and 33 others were deprived of valuables.
Out of the total reported incidents in City Division, nine motorcycles and six cars were also stolen or snatched. Model Town Division was calculated on the second number with 30 reported incidents out of which 11 motorcycles and five cars were also stolen or snatched.
Four people, identified as Shaukat, Waqas, Sanobar and Aslam, were shot at and wounded by robbers in the areas of Kot Lakhpat, Liaquatabad and Faisal Town police.
A sister of former IGP Azhar Hassan Nadeem was also robbed in the Gulberg police jurisdiction. Cantt Division was calculated on the third number with 28 reported incidents out of which nine motorcycles and three cars were also stolen or snatched.
Iqbal Town Division was calculated on the fourth number with 26 reported incidents out of which nine motorcycles and four cars were also stolen. As mentioned above, a man was killed and his nephew was wounded at Sandha, Iqbal Town Police Division.
Civil Lines Division was calculated on the fifth with 20 reported incidents out of which three motorcycles and four cars were also stolen or snatched. Shalimar and Moghalpura police proved safe haven for the robbers.
