Karachi: 2 commit suicide
KARACHI: Depressed about scoring less in exams, a grade IX student hanged herself to death on Monday at her residence in Gulistan–e–Jauhar. The 16-year-old Uzma, daughter of Farzand Ali, committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan, after she locked herself up in a room. When the door did not open after incessant knocks, the neighbours were called in by the mother, who broke the door, only to find Uzma’s dangling body.
After being called to the scene, the Sharea Faisal police mobile shifted the body to the JPMC for an autopsy. Also, the police revealed that four days earlier, the girl had attempted to take her life by drinking poison, but was saved by receiving timely medical treatment.
Meanwhile, an unidentified man in his early twenties put an end to his life when he jumped on a railway track, a moment before the Khyber Mail crossed the spot, near the Malir Railway Station. The mangled body was taken to the JPMC for legal formalities. The cause of his suicide could not be known. An eyewitness told the police that the man kept standing near the track, but when the passenger train came closer, he jumped on it, killing himself on the spot.
