Islamabad: Army man held with ammunition
ISLAMABAD: The capital police arrested a serving army man after recovering hand grenades and SMG (submachine gun) bullets from his possession. The police on Tuesday said Sepoy Sohail Zafar was deployed on the frontline in tribal areas and was coming home in Rawalpindi on a month leave.
The police on suspicion intercepted him at a checkpoint in Sadat Colony, Golra, and recovered three hand grenades and 370 rounds of SMG from his luggage.
He was taken to the Golra police station where a case was registered against him under the explosives act and arm ordinance after he failed to satisfy the investigators about the presence of the grenades and bullets in his luggage.
However, during interrogation, he claimed that the ammunition and grenades were stolen from the artillery for personal use, the police said.
The investigators, however, suspected that the ammunition and grenades were stolen for sale.
