Rawalpindi: Case registered against cop for taking bribe
RAWALPINDI: People witnessed Wednesday another brawl between uniformed military and police personnel at Peshawar Road near Kohnoor Mills. Although the manner was wrong but this time, the military man seemed to be right, the onlookers who witnessed the exchange of blows, observed.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, confirmed the happening, saying that the issue has been settled after reconciliation between both the parties, however, a report has been lodged against the policeman involved in taking bribe, the officer added.
The incident happened at a checkpost at Peshawar Road falling in the jurisdiction of Nasirabad Chowki where army and police personnel were jointly deployed to check vehicles heading towards Peshawar, police sources said.
The incident occurred at 11.00 am after the army jawan flew into rage after exchange of harsh wards on a conflict when, allegedly, the policeman took bribe from a truck driver and allowed him to go ahead without checking.
Police sources told The News that the scuffle took place between army jawan Khawaja Mohammad and a police constable Naseer Ahmad of Nasirabad Chowki, deployed at the same checkpost, when, allegedly, police constable took bribe from a private truck driver and gave green signal to the driver to go ahead without checking while the jawan had marked the truck as doubtful, the sources said adding that army man Khawaja who watched the policeman while taking bribe, protested to the policeman, saying that he had tarnished the image for army as they were performing their duties on the same picket and he took bribe in the presence of army personnel but he rejected his protest, resulted in clash between both of them and they beat up each other.
However, the matter was taken to Nasirabad Chowki after the army officers reached the scene and finally settled the issue after lodging a complaint against the policeman, the sources said.
