Bahawalpur: Plaza fraud case; Main accused held from Lahore
BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment police arrested the main accused of the plaza fraud case, Khalid Abdul Rehman, from his residence at Johar Town, Lahore on Monday. After his arrest, hundreds of victims gathered outside the Cantonment police station and raised slogans for the recovery of their money plundered by Landmark Consultant in the name of the allotment of shops at Royal City Shopping Plaza, to be built on state land, near LHC Bahawalpur Bench building on Noor Mahal Road.
Over 300 investors, who were deprived of Rs 90 million, had been protesting since August 2011. The scam surfaced after the Bahawalpur Cantonment Board displayed a banner at the site, declaring the project illegal.
About 21 FIRs were registered against the accused on the complaints of the affectees. The project was inaugurated last year and the ceremony was attended by civil and military officers. When contacted, the Cantonment police said that Khalid Abdul Rehman had been remanded in their custody for two days.
