Karachi: 9 ‘extortionists’ arrested
KARACHI: The Maochko police claimed to have arrested six alleged extortionists on the complaint of Chawla Factories management. According to SHO Nasir Mehmood, they received a complaint from the Manager of Chawala Factories, Samee, some three to four days that they had been receiving threats for extortion from Saif-ur-Rehman and others due to which almost six of their units were not functioning for the past two months.
The factory owners had also called the area representatives to resolve the issue but in vain and now they were being asked to pay Rs0.71 million in extortion per month.
Following the receipt of the complaint an FIR was lodged against the six nominated suspects, and raids were conducted in Ittehad Town on Thursday night that led to the arrest of Saif-ur-Rehman alias Khaista, Shaukat, Nizaamuddin, Naik Mohammed alias Bacha Wali, Mohammed Irshaad and Akhtar Ali.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to extending threats to the owner of Chawla Factories and taking extortion money two times. SHO Nasir said that the suspects used to threaten the owners by visiting their units and telling them that they could not run their factories if they did not pay extortion.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) arrested three alleged extortionists from Saddar area.Besides, Sukhan police arrested three outlaws after an encounter and recovered looted amount and stolen items from their possession.
