Karachi: Saeedabad SHO booked for murder
KARACHI: The Saeedabad police lodged an FIR against a number of policemen on Sunday, one of whom is the suspended SHO of the Saeedabad police station. The FIR has been lodged over the murder of a youngster, Zahid, in an alleged encounter that took place on March 20.
On the night March 20, an alleged bandit, Zahid, was killed in an encounter with the police in the Saeedabad area. The police claimed that they recovered pistol from him.
The next day Zahid’s parents claimed that their son was innocent and had been killed in a fake encounter. Taking notice of the family’s protest, the Additional Inspector General (AIG), Karachi, Akhtar Hasan Gorchani, formed an investigation team under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Range Tahir Naveed and suspended SHO Raja Tanveer along with the raiding party.
DIG Tahir revealed to The News that he ordered the Saeedabad police to lodge an FIR against the raiding party on the application of Zahid’s father, Shah Dost. The FIR has been lodged against Inspector Raja Tanveer, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Yaqoob, Police Constable (PC) Asghar, PC Akram and PC Karam.
He added that the probing team had collected evidence, compiled a medical report and had sent samples to the Sindh Police Lab for forensics tests. He noted that they were also keeping in mind the fact that the police party was in civilian clothes during the encounter.
“The police will also be investigating if Zahid had a criminal record; we have recorded the statements of eyewitnesses from the police and from the victim’s father.”
He pointed that the eyewitnesses’ accounts were contradictory.
As part of the investigations, the police also gathered information of Zahid’s cell phone, including a comprehensive record of all his calls and messages. DIG Tahir said that the police were waiting for reports from the concerned departments.
