8 arrested for firing on Karachi Mushaira
KARACHI: As many as eight men were arrested on Monday in connection with the attack on a ‘Mushaira’ organised by the MQM in Clifton area on Sunday evening. Earlier, several ANP workers were booked in the attack case, after one of the attackers killed in the shootout was found to be affiliated with the ANP. In separate raids on Shah Rasool Colony, Neelum Colony and Shirin Jinnah Colony, police rounded up at least eight men, including a prime suspect.
According to police officials, Munir Khan was the prime suspect of the attack on MQM’s Mushaira. Panic gripped all attending the event, when unidentified gunmen, who came on three cars, opened fire outside the venue (of Mushaira). As the attack was repulsed, one of the gunmen identified as Kamran alias Kami was killed. The police officials said the deceased was a resident of Shah Rasool Colony. The Boat Basin police have registered an FIR on the complaint of ASI Abdul Ghaffar.
According to the investigators, the gunmen wanted to attack MQM’s Mushaira but they themselves fled when the police retaliated. Meanwhile, residents of Shirin Jinnah Colony, Neelum Colony and Shah Rasool Colony staged protests against the killing of Kamran and arrest of the ANP men.
