Karachi: SHC CJ directs LEAs to arrest culprits
KARACHI: Expressing concern over the recent surge in target killings and subsequent violence, Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Mushir Alam directed the law enforcement agencies to make all out efforts to nab the culprits and bring them to book. CJ Mushir Alam was chairing the meeting of a high–level committee on Tuesday to review the law and order situation in the city as well as the performance of police and law enforcement agencies and their action against the perpetrators involved in causing disturbances in Karachi.
The committee was constituted on the Supreme Court’s five-member bench’s order on Karachi killings suo moto case that directed the Sindh government to constitute a committee headed by Chief Justice of SHC, who shall be assisted by the Chief Secretary, heads of the security agencies and IG Sindh to supervise the action of LEAs against the perpetrators.
Chief Secretary Sindh, DG Rangers Sindh, IG Police, Commandant FC, representatives of intelligence agencies, FIA and others attended the meeting. IG Sindh and DG Rangers submitted progress reports with regard to recent law and order situation in the city and action taken against the culprits involved in lawlessness and terrorism activities. The meeting was informed that efforts were being made to implement the directions of the Supreme Court’s order on Karachi suo moto killings and restore peace and law and order in the city.
Chief Justice of SHC expressed concern over the recent wave of target killings, including of lawyers, and violence and lawlessness, and directed the police to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.
