Karachi: ANP man gunned down in Surjani
KARACHI: An activist of the Awami National Party was gunned down in the Taiser Town area of Surjani on Wednesday, police said. Umar Malik, 30, was sitting at a milk shop in Sector 36 of Taiser Town when gunmen riding a motorbike pulled up there and sprayed him with bullets before speeding away, said a duty officer at the Surjani Town police station.
The victim, who was a vice president of the party’s area ward, sustained three gunshot wounds in the chest and one in the head causing his instant death, the police said. They quoted a witness as saying that one of the two riders was wearing shalwar kameez and the other trousers and shirt. Police found several spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol from the crime–scene.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post–mortem examination. The police said the victim worked as a ‘munshi’ at a bus terminus and was father of three children.
Following the killing, traders pulled down shutters and tension gripped parts of Surjani Town. Subsequently, contingents of Rangers and police were deployed to prevent any untoward condition. Police said the victim hailed from Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
