Lahore: ‘Female prisoners are forced to do prostitution’
LAHORE: The female prisoners are forced to do prostitution outside jails, Lahore High Court Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu remarked while hearing an appeal for cancellation of bails of police officers involved in judges’ attack case in Sialkot. “Drugs, arms and other prohibited things have also been supplied in jails to the criminals,” Justice Sidhu further remarked.
A division bench comprising Justice Siddhu and Justice Kazim Raza Shamsi adjourned for Thursday (today) the hearing of the appeal of Muhmmad Yousaf Aujla and others seeking cancellation of bails. Sialkot Police had registered a case against senior police officers, sitting and former, when some armed prisoners had in 2003 attacked civil and additional and sessions judges during the visit of Sialkot district jail. The assailants had made the judges hostage for some hours and four judges were killed in the incident.
During the course of hearing, former superintendent of Sialkot jail, however, said that the supply of female prisoners for prostitution was not a routine practice because only one incident of the same nature had occurred in the past. Meanwhile, Justice Umar Ata Bandail sought reply from ECP on a petition challenging by-elections schedule for PP-245 and PP-243 of the provincial assembly.
Petitioner lawyer Shahid Pervez Jami submitted that the ECP had announced to hold by-elections in PP-245 and PP-243 of D G Khan on May 7, and the step was against law and the Constitution as by-elections was scheduled before completion of due time of 90 days. The court adjourned the hearing till April 10.
