Karachi: Boy killed as mortar shell accidentally explodes
KARACHI: Three people including a teenage boy were killed in separate incidents in the city on Saturday. A 13–year–old Sohail died in a blast in his house in the Docks police limits. The blast occurred when the boy, while playing with a mortar shell which he had picked from the Manora beach earlier in the day. When the police were informed they arrived with fire brigade and bomb disposal squad officials. The injured teenager was taken to the Civil Hospital where he died.
In a separate incident, a Peshimam was shot dead over a family dispute in the Steel Town police limits. The incident happened on Saturday night near Ghaghar Phathak. Maulana Aijaz Pathan, a religious leader of a Masjid in Akber Goth, was going shopping with his younger brother, when unidentified armed motorcyclists opened fire. They fled the scene after firing.
Aijaz Pathan was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bin Qasim Badar Ali Shah said Aijaz Pathan had moved from Quaidabad area to Steel town with his siblings only three months back due to a dispute with his relatives relating to the marriage of his sister. He had also received death threats from his cousins.
In another case, a cab driver was shot dead while another injured in the Airport police limits. SDPO Chaudhry Saifullah of Airport Division said Khursheed had parked his taxi near the airport signal as per routine when another taxi driver Shahjee, who was allegedly drunk, got into an argument with him and opened fire. Khursheed and another driver were injured during the incident. The injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) where Khursheed died while the other sustained. He was the resident of the Shah Faisal Colony. The police have noted the vehicle number of the fleeing suspect. A case was reported and investigation is underway.
