Lahore: Double Shah scam victims receive Rs24m
LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Punjab, on Monday distributed Rs24 million among 900 victims of the Double Shah scam. The said amount was distributed in a ceremony held at the NAB’s provincial office.NAB Punjab Director General Khurshid Anwar Bhindar, who chaired the ceremony, said besides the distribution of Rs24 million among 900 victims, the NAB, Punjab, had already made 100 percent payment to 6,500 victims, thus the disbursement totaled to the tune of Rs 1576 million to the victims of Double Shah scam.
He said the mastermind of the scam, Syed Sibt ul Hassan Gilani, had been convicted by an accountability court and sentenced for 14 years with fine of Rs 5.43 billion and confiscation of his all properties. This amount will be recovered from the accused person for distribution among the affectees. The NAB, Punjab, has recently established a special claim verification cell to speed up the recovery and disbursement of payments to the affectees of Double Shah scam.
Double Shah scam is one of the biggest financial frauds in the history of Pakistan, which originated in Wazirabad, Gujranwala district and Sambrial, Sialkot district, during 2005–2007.
