Lahore: Red warrants issued for former railways chief
LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau, Punjab, has issued red warrants for former chairman of Pakistan Railways. Talking to a private TV channel, Punjab NAB DG Khursheed Anwar Bhandar announced that Railways’ former chairman Sami Khilji would be arrested soon in connection with the Railways scrap scandal. He also cautioned that anybody else politician, army officer found guilty would also be brought to book, regardless of any affiliations, while any kind of corruption occurring during the tenure of Javed Ashraf Qazi would also be investigated.
Separately, talking to reporters after a ceremony held for distributing cheques to the victims of Double Shah, the NAB DG said no official of the former Punjab government of Ch Pervaiz Elahi is directly involved in the Punjab Bank scandal.
He said Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour will not be arrested in connection with the scrap scandal. He dispelled the impression that NAB never takes action against an influential person. He said five more contractors have been arrested for their involvement in the scandal, while former Railways minister Javed Ashraf Qazi is being questioned.
Meanwhile, talking exclusively to Online on condition of anonymity, an official of Interpol denied receiving any such request for issuance of any red warrants and declared the news regarding the issue as concocted. The Interpol official also stressed that any action against Sami Khilji would only be carried out if and when any such request for issuance of red warrants was received.
