Islamabad: 2 dacoits held after exchange of fire
ISLAMABAD: Police arrested two dacoits after exchange of fire at Gulzar-e-Quaid and Chaklala, the police spokesman said. The exchange of fire between the police team and gangsters continued for over 30 minutes on different roads of the garrison. Finally, police trapped them on a bridge and nabbed them, the spokesman added.
Police said that a team of Airport Police Station, upon receiving information, conducted a raid on a hideout at Gulzar–e–Quaid, but two suspects, wanted by police in different cases of street crimes, opened fire and escaped on a bike towards Chaklala, the police spokesman said. He added that the pillion rider continued firing on police, while the other tried to sneak out of the trap of police. As they reached a bridge in Chaklala, police surrounded the suspects from both sides and forced them to surrender.
The suspects, later identified as Safeer Ahmad, son of Mohammad Rafique, and Khurram Asghar, son of Asghar Ali, confessed to committing dozens of armed robberies in different localities of twin cities and their surroundings. Police would produce the suspects in the court of law to get their physical remand for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Civil Lines Police conducted a raid on a hideout at Gulistan Colony and arrested a hardened criminal, Taimoor alias Tipu, son of Zia Tanveer, the police spokesman said. He added that he tried to escape from the hideout, but police arrested him and recovered lethal weapons from his possession.
