Karachi: 5 more dead as target killers strike freely
KARACHI: Five people, including two activists of the MQM and a member of the Pakhtoon Action Committee, were gunned down in different parts of the city on Tuesday. Muhammad Furqan, 35, was shot dead by two motorcyclists who intercepted his vehicle near RCD Ground in Malir in the Saudabad police limits, while he was returning to his residence along with his wife. The armed men pulled him from his vehicle and shot him dead.
After the incident, his wife started shouting for help but no one came out from their houses and later a police mobile van reached there and shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
According to the MLO, the deceased received four bullets on different parts of his body. The Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Saudabad told The News that the victim was an activist of the MQM and was running a toy shop, adding the deceased was a resident of Saudabad No 1 and it was a targeted killing incident.
However, the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) also claimed that Furqan was their activist. The bullet–riddled body of Qamar Qureshi alias Kamran (30) was found from Korangi’s Sector 44/C in the Landhi police jurisdiction. Police shifted the corpse to the JPMC for a postmortem, where the MLO said the victim received five bullets on his body.
Police said that Kamran was residing in Korangi No–4 and he was kidnapped by unidentified people on Monday night when he was going to buy some medicines from a nearby store. Police said that the deceased was an activist of the MQM and wanted in criminal cases, adding he was killed over a personal enmity.
Haji Muhammad Deen, 75, was gunned down by two men, riding a motorcycle, outside his residence (C/11) near Mehboob Manzil situated in North Nazimabad’s Block–T in the Shahra–e–Noorjhan police area.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital. According to the MLO, the deceased received five bullets on his body. The SDPO North Nazimabad said that the victim was a member of the Pakhtoon Action Committee.
Shehzad (28) son of Noor Muhammad was shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists near C-1 Area in the Liquatabad police limits, while he was going to his house. Police shifted the corpse to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. However, his family members reached the hospital and took away the body without performing legal formalities. Police said the victim was residing in the same area and was killed over some personal enmity.
Akhlaq, 40, was gunned down by unidentified men, riding a motorcycle, near Taiser Town in Sector 50/F in the Surjani Town police jurisdiction, while he was going to his house. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said that it was a targeted killing incident.
Meanwhile, an assistant sub inspector (ASI), who received bullet wounds on April 1 in the Khokhrapar police limits, succumbed to his injuries. The police claimed to have arrested two target killers in this connection.
ASI Muhammad Aslam, 40, received bullet wounds, when two bike riders opened fire on him near Khokhrapar No-1 while he was going to his duty. He was immediately shifted to the JPMC in a critical condition and from there he was taken to a private hospital five days ago, where he breathed his last.
Police said that ASI Aslam had named two suspects – Arshed and Akmal Raza – who were arrested on Tuesday along with two TT pistols. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being involved in a number of targeted killing incidents as well as opening fire on ASI Alam.
