Karachi: 2 shot dead in target killing
KARACHI: Yet another political activist and a youngster were shot dead in separate acts of target killing while at least five people were injured in violent incidents in the city here on Wednesday. Twenty five–year–old Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activist Rashid Baig, son of Ahmed Baig was gunned down near his residence in North Karachi within the limits of Ajmer Nagri police station. Police officials said that two armed motorcyclists targeted Baig while he was sitting in the locality. He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where he succumbed to the injuries.
PPP District Central President Sohail Abidi confirmed the affiliation of victim with the PPP, adding that victim’s brother Amir Baig was also an active worker of the PPP’s Peoples Youth PS–98. Separately, police found a man’s dead body stuffed in a gunny bag near Labour Square within the limits of Site B police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said he appeared to be of 27 years of age and had been brutally tortured before death. The victim had received a bullet in his shoulder.
The officer said unidentified men had kidnapped him from an unknown place and after murdering, threw his body in Site area. He said the victim was wearing a commando trouser and t-shirt and appeared to be of Baloch descent. Body was shifted to the CHK for autopsy and later moved to the Edhi Morgue. Police have registered a case against unidentified men on the complaint of state and initiated a probe into it.
In an incident in Baloch Para, Rizvia Society, at least four people including two women were wounded when unidentified miscreants restored to indiscriminate firing.
Those injured included Waheed, 30, Farid, 22, Shahnaz, 35, and Khair–un–Nisa, 50. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. Police were unable to ascertain the motive behind the incident till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, a young man Zahid Gul, 27, was wounded in a clash between two groups near Micasa Apartment within PIB Colony police remit. Police officials said that a clash took place between two Pashtun groups wounding a man from one of the parties.
