Lahore: Death sentence awarded to 5 criminals
LAHORE: The Anti–terrorism Court on Friday awarded death sentence to five criminals on the charges of kidnapping a Dr Arshad and receiving ransom of Rs60 million. The death sentence has been awarded to Shahid Ahmed, Bashir, Bilal, Kamran and Kashif. The court has also directed authorities concerned to confiscate movable and immovable assets of the convicts. The aforesaid gang had kidnapped Dr Muhammad Arshad and his driver Khalil Ahmed from Township in January 2010.
Dr Muhammad Arshad, owner of country’s largest poultry feed producing company, High-Tech Feed, had been kept hostage at some undisclosed location for more than 20 days. The gangsters released him and his driver Khalil after the victim family paid ransom amount worth Rs60 million to them as per the kidnappers’ conditions.
After this, police had registered a criminal case against them and managed to arrest gang in November 2010. Police investigation revealed that they were also involved in kidnapping and killing of a government officer (DDO–R) Naseem Ahmed and his driver Irshad Ahmed in Defence. They kidnapped two brothers from Faisalabad and killed them when their families failed to give them ransom.
