Karachi: 6 more gunned down in city
KARACHI: Five people were shot dead, while a woman killed her alleged paramour in different parts of the city on Saturday. However, the police did not confirm if these killings were linked to the recent wave of target killings. Nisaar Ali and Abul Qasim were shot dead in Lasi Goth near Basheer Chowk in the Sohrab Goth police limits in the evening. According to SHO Abdul Ghaffar Jumani, following receipt of information, police rushed to the spot and found two people lying seriously injured. They were immediately moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where they succumbed to their injuries.
Both Nisaar Ali and Abul Qasim received several bullets on their bodies. They were residents of Lasi Goth. During initial investigation, it transpired that Nisaar Ali had a heated argument with some suspects over motorcycle parking an hour before the incident. Later, he was having tea at a nearby stall when the same suspects came there on a motorcycle and opened fire due to which Nisaar along with another customer Qasim sustained serious injuries and later died.
Mashil Khan, 32, was shot dead in a house situated in Gulzarabad in the Manghopir police limits in the afternoon. According to SHO Ghulam Rasool Rajpur, when the police reached there they found Khan lying dead and a woman was present inside the house. His corpse was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for postmortem and other legal formalities.
Police initially thought that the woman would be the deceased’s wife but it later transpired that the woman had murdered Mashil Khan. The police took the woman into custody and also recovered the murder weapon from the house.
During interrogation, the suspected woman Tasqeen Bibi reportedly told the police that she had an affair with the deceased but she got disturbed with this relationship and when Mashil Khan came to her house on Saturday afternoon she took out a pistol that she had hidden behind the TV set and shot dead Khan when he was lying on the bed.
A case has been registered and further investigation was underway. Ata Mohammed was shot dead in Sharafi Goth police limits, while the fleeing suspects were overpowered by the people and subjected to severe beating.
Sub–Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Landhi, Mirza Abdul Majeed said that two armed men, riding a motorcycle, shot dead Ata Mohammed and were escaping when the area people chased the fleeing suspects and overpowered them at Babar Market in Landhi where they beaten them up with iron rods, stones, fists and blows and tried to kill them. But in the meantime police reached the spot and managed to rescue the suspects from the wrath of the mob and took them to JPMC.
Police also recovered pistols from the possession of the suspects identified as Saeed and Ismail. Deceased Ata Mohammed was a contractor by profession and was present at his construction site when the held suspects attempted to rob him and when Ata resisted they shot him dead. Police were investigating the matter.
Noman was found dead in Mominabad police limits. His body was retrieved from Sector-4F, Orangi Town in the morning and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Noman had left his house in Ishaqabad, Liaquatabad, on Friday night for some work but did not return and finally his bullet–riddled body was found from the Mominabad area, police said.
His family told the police that Noman had married a girl, who was residing in Orangi Town, and her brothers had been continuously threatening Noman since he had entered into court marriage. The girl’s family had also lodged a kidnapping case against Noman, however, he was later released by the court.
The family blames the girl’s family for murdering Noman. Police said that it would be premature to fix responsibility as they were investigating the murder from both the angles i.e. target killing and enmity.
Jabbar, 45, was fired upon and seriously injured by two bike riders on the main street of Korangi–3 ½, late Saturday night. He was taken to JPMC for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. Jabbar was a fruit seller and residing in Awami Colony area.
SHO Ateeq Hussain said that a few days ago some suspects had raped his teenaged daughter, following which he registered an FIR against the suspects at Zaman Town police station. He apprehended that Jabbar might have been killed by the same suspects.
Meanwhile, Malik Naveed committed suicide at his house situated in Jutt Lines in Brigade police limits. According to SHO Zulqarnain Akhtar, the deceased was a security guard and had married some four months ago but was not happy with the marriage.
On Saturday morning Naveed quarreled with his wife Samina during which he took out his pistol and opened fire due to which Samina received two bullets while their nephew Waqar also sustained injuries.
Later, Naveed pointed pistol on his temple and shot himself dead. The condition of Samina and Waqar was said to be stable. Police were investigating the matter.
