Karachi: 50 suspects nabbed in overnight raids
KARACHI: Police on Monday claimed to have apprehended over 50 suspects in the overnight targeted operations in various parts of the city carried out to maintain the law and order situation. At least two alleged target killers, arrested from Orangi and Baldia Towns, were also among the detainees. Police also claimed to have seized a huge cache of weapons in the overnight raids. In the first encounter, Mominabad police arrested an alleged target killer, Imran, son of Anwer. He was arrested red handed while trying to flee after wounding two men near Badar Chowk, Orangi Town. A TT pistol was also recovered from his possession. A police official said that the arrested suspect belonged to a political party, however, he declined to name the party.
He further informed that the accused was injured by the patrolling police who opened fire while he tried to make his getaway. Imran was admitted in the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Another alleged target killer, Fahimuddin alias Fahim Kala, was arrested from Baldia Town. Saeedabad SHO Tariq Islam said that the arrested suspect during initial investigation confessed to have killed Pakistan People’s Party workers Zafer and Majeed Bhola besides three Sunni Tehreek workers during the recent wave of target killings.
Awami National Party’s District South president Abdul Bari Kakar accompanied by four of his companions; Iqbal Kakar, Sadiq Tareen, Maqbool Kakar and Sadaruddin Agha, was apprehended in a raid at the ANP Office located at Empress Market. Preedy police said that a case was being registered against them. Earlier, police detained over 50 suspects along with weapons in various raids at Micasa Apartment, Raees Amrohi Colony, Qasba Colony, Mustafa Colony, Yaqoobabad, Chishti Nagar, Shafiq Morr, Railway Colony, Mehmoodabad, Azam Basti, Quaidabad, Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Korangi, Awami Colony, Mehran Town, Garden and other areas. Some political workers were also among the apprehended suspects, however, their political affiliations were not disclosed.
