Lahore: Couple commits suicide
LAHORE: A newlywed couple committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills over a clash in the Shafiqabad police precincts on Monday. The deceased were identified as Ameer Ghufran Khan, 25, and Munazza Ameer, 24, residents of Street Number–II, Shafiqabad. Ameer Ghufran Khan and Munazza had contracted a love marriage about six months back. Their parents refused to accept their marriage due to which both were living alone. Ameer and Munaza had been having clashes with each other since their honeymoon.
A couple of weeks ago, both exchanged harsh words with each other after which Munazza returned to her parents’ home. Some days back, Ameer contacted Munazza again and managed to bring her back with him. On Monday, both had a clash with each other once again after which they swallowed poisonous pills and went unconscious.
Ameer, after taking poisonous pills, informed his parents after which his father and other family members reached his place and shifted both of them to the Mayo Hospital where they two died despite efforts of doctors. Police have shifted the bodies to morgue for autopsy and started investigating the matter.
Shafiqabad DSP Kamran Zaman, while talking to the media at the Mayo Hospital morgue, said the couple had contracted love marriage so the police had requested their families for autopsies of the deceased couple in order to confirm either the couple had swallowed poisonous pills on their own or someone had forced them to do so. He said that they would also record the statements of the locals in order to identify the reasons behind the suspected suicide.
Father of Ameer Ghufran Khan told the media at the hospital that the family were not aware of the actual reasons behind the suicide. He said that his son had called him on his mobile phone number after swallowing poisonous pills. He said that his son was running a shop of mobile phones in the Shafiqabad area and wanted to continue his married life as he had left all his blood relations for marrying Munazza.
