Vehari: Celebratory fire claims 3 lives
VEHARI: Three people were killed during a celebratory fire at a wedding ceremony here on Monday afternoon at Chak 285–EB in Gagoo police area. Reports said some guests at a marriage party of Majid Bhutta resorted to aerial firing at Chak 285–EB. As a result of which locals identified as Nadeem, 12, Zeshan, 14, and guest Abid, 27, were killed. Talking to Dawn, Gagoo Station House Officer Mohammad Rafique said two died on the spot while Abid succumbed to his injuries on way to Nishtar Hospital, Multan. He said the police had registered a case against 40 people and arrested 17 of them.
Those arrested included Majid’s father Yaseen and brother Mumtaz. However, Majid Bhutta managed his escape after the incident without tying the knot. The SHO said weapons used in aerial firing were recovered. The case was registered under sections 302, 324, 109, 148 and 149 of Pakistan Penal Code.
