Karachi: 5 dead, 1 injured in attacks
KARACHI: At least five people, including a son of a local PPP leader, were killed while one person was injured in different attacks on Tuesday. Twenty–five–year–old Gulab Khan and his younger brother Saiullah Khan were walking home when they were sprayed with bullets by unidentified motorcyclists. The attack took place near the Askari Park in the Old Sabzi Mandi area. Both the injured were rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition, where Gulab Khan expired during treatment. His body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
Police said that the incident was a case of targeted killing, adding that Gulab and Saiullah were the sons of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Akbar Khan. Meanwhile, 30–year–old Azam Baloch and 32–year–old Shabir Baloch were gunned down near Jehangeer Road in the Jamshed Quarters police area. Azam and Shabbir were travelling on a motorcycle when they were targeted by unidentified gunmen who were riding a car.
The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital for legal formalities. The medico–legal officer said that the deceased had received at least four bullets each to their bodies. Azam and Shabir, residents of Haji Shafiq Goth, Malir, were visiting their relatives when they were gunned down, police said.
The news of their death quickly spread among the residents of Patel Para, who blocked Jehangeer Road in protest. An angry mob pelted vehicles with stones and torched tyres on the road.
Paramilitary forces had to resort to tear-gas shelling and aerial firing to disperse the mob. The police termed the murders an act of target killing. In another incident, Shamim Baloch, 32, was shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists in Ilyas Goth near Liquatabad C-1 Area. Baloch was sitting outside his residence when armed motorcyclists stopped next to him, sprayed him with bullets and fled.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. In yet another incident, Muhammad Umar Khan, 45, was gunned down when unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on him near Frontier Chowk in Orangi Town No–4.
Khan’s body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem. The police have also termed this incident as a targeted killing.
