Quetta: Would-be suicide bomber killed
QUETTA: An alleged suicide bomber was killed when detonator he was carrying along with suicide vest went off prematurely on Kirani Road near Hazara Town area of Quetta on Thursday night. According to Superintendent Police Brewery Malik Arshid, the police officials in plain clothes deputed near Hazara Town, a locality predominately occupied by Hazara people, stopped a suspect for search but he tried to escape and police opened fire at him. As a result, the detonator prematurely exploded, killing the alleged suicide bomber instantly.
However, the suicide vest of alleged bomber could not explode. “Suicide bomber wanted to target Hazara community but the brisk action showed by police thwarted a big tragedy,” a police official said, adding, the attacker seemed to be a youth with small beard. Police and personnel of Frontier Corps reached the site after the blast and cordoned off the area. The blast rocked the area and spread panic and fear in the city.
“The suicide attacker was carrying 4 to 5 kg explosive material and ball Barings,” bomb disposal squad (BDS) confirmed.
The body of alleged suicide bomber was moved to Bolan Medical College (BMC) Teaching Hospital for autopsy. However, the identity of the alleged bomber could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
