Chitral: Militants free kidnapped soldier
CHITRAL: The Afghanistan–based militants have set free a Chitral Scouts soldier kidnapped in August last year after an attack on a security forces checkpost in Arandu, sources said. “Yes, the militants have freed the abducted soldier, Tariq Jalal, who has reached the Domail Nissar checkpost,” an official said, requesting not to be named. About 26 soldiers were killed and two others, Tariq Jalal and Faqir Hussain, kidnapped by the militants after simultaneous attacks on five checkposts of the Chitral Scouts on August 29 last year. The beheaded body of Faqir Hussain was found in a forest in Arandu three months after the kidnapping.
The militants had been demanding Rs6 million as ransom for the release of Tariq Jalal and had threatened to kill him if the family failed to pay the amount. In a recent press conference, his mother had asked the well-off people to help her pay the ransom to the militants for the safe recovery of her son. However, it could not be ascertained whether or not any ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped soldier.
