Karachi: 3 more fall prey to target killing in city
KARACHI: Three people, including the son of a retired customs officer, and a political party activist, were killed in separate acts of violence and target killing in different areas of the metropolis on Sunday. A youngster was shot dead near a private hospital situated in Shireen Jinnah Colony within the limits of Boat Basin police station. The 26–year–old Asif, son of Iqbal, a resident of DHA, Phase V, Florida Homes, was going home along with his father and brother after having dinner at a restaurant situated in Keamari when two armed motorcyclists intercepted them and after an exchange of hot words, shot him dead on the spot. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico–legal formalities. SP Saddar Farrukh said that according to the victim’s family, they had a dinner in Keamari where Asif was engaged in an argument with someone, however, people had resolved the case.
“On their way back, he was shot and killed”, he added. SP Farrukh said victim’s father is a retired customs officer. The case will be registered after the completion of victim’s final rites.
An activist of the Jeaye Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) was shot dead in Haji Sukhia Goth within the limits of Khokhrapar police station. The victim was identified as 39–year–old Abdul Ghani, son of Wilari Khan, a resident of Dumba Goth, Malir. A police official informed that the victim had received a bullet in his head and was kidnapped before being murdered. They said the victim was an active worker of a nationalist party and a rickshaw driver. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico–legal formalities. When his body reached Dumba Goth, tension engulfed the surrounding areas and all shops were closed. The case could not be registered till filing of this report.
Separately, police found a man’s body from a family park situated in Zamanabad within the precincts of Landhi police station. The victim was later identified as Tanveer Ahmed, 32, son of Anwar Ahmed, a resident of Surjani, sector 4. SHO Mazhar Iqbal Awan said unidentified motorcyclists shot Ahmed in his head from the park’s gate. The body was shifted to the JPMC for an autopsy and later to the Edhi Morgue where victim’s family members identified him.
A police officer said the victim was an employee of a towel factory situated in Korangi Industrial Area and had been missing since 27th April. The motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained and victim had no affiliation with any political or religious party.
Police have registered a case against unidentified men on the complaint of victim’s father and initiated the probe.
