In another raid, the police arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in more than 60 cases of target killing, including the murder attempt on Awami National Party (ANP) leader. Addressing a press conference on Friday, chief SIU (Karachi) SSP Khurram Waris said that police received information that wanted gangster Ahmed Ali Magsi along with his accomplices was present in Phase-I of Defence Housing Authority (DHA). Consequently, police raided the spot and an encounter ensued near Mughal Engineering in DHA Phase-I following which Mohammed Ibrahim alias Qari was arrested, while Ahmed Ali Magsi and his other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire and darkness. Police also recovered arms from the possession of the held suspect.
Ibrahim is a close associate of Ahmed Ali Magsi who is wanted by the police in a number of target killing incidents, including the murder of MQM’s sector member and three policemen in PIB Colony area, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other heinous crimes.
During interrogation, Ibrahim, a resident of Baloch Para, told the police that they had planned to kill MQM sector member last month and Ahmed Magsi did not tell them the reason or motive behind the targeted attack.
He revealed that on the day of the incident he along with Ahmed Magsi entered the PIB Colony and came to know the address of MQM sector member Mansoor Mukhtar from a youngster who was stealing petrol from a motorcycle in the area.
The youngster took them to Mansoor’s house where Ahmed handed over the youngster’s custody to him (Ibrahim), while Magsi and other accomplices broke into the house where they found Mansoor standing in the courtyard. He took him out from the house and sprayed Mansoor with bullets.
In the meantime, Mansoor’s elder brother Saud Mukhtar and his wife rushed there, to which they again opened fire on them and fled on motorcycles. Ibrahim further disclosed that few weeks ago they had kidnapped one Palari from PIB Colony and took him to Lyari where they started negotiations with the family. On April 5 when they were going to Palari’s house to collect ransom money, they were stopped by a police team, driving Mehran car, near Meena Bazaar area in PIB. Upon seeing police they took out their lethal arms and asked the two constables to let them go. Their officer ASI Dhani Bux, sitting on the front seat of the car, started arguing with them. In the meanwhile they saw the activists of their rival group taking positions to target them. Sensing danger, the suspects opened fire on the policemen, killing all the three on the spot.
