Rs 3.5m taken away from Sialkot GPO
SIALKOT: Four dacoits took away over Rs 3.5 million from General Post Office on Paris Rs 3.5m taken away from Sialkot GPO in the Kotwali police limits here on Wednesday. The dacoits, some of whom were in police uniforms, stormed the GPO by scaling the back wall adjacent to a residential colony and looted Rs 3.5 million at gunpoint from the saving bank counter in the presence of dozens of customers and employees. Syed Asghar Shah, an employee of GPO, tried in vain to capture one of the dacoits who opened fire at him. However, he remained unhurt.
During the scuffle, a packet of Rs one million, a pair of glasses, a headphone, a cap carrying the police monogram, a couple of magazines and some bullets fell on the floor. However, the dacoits managed to escape by scaling the GPO walls adjacent to Library Road, while firing in the air. After the incident, DPO Afzal Kausar and others reached the spot. He told journalists that special teams had been formed for the arrest of dacoits.
