Peshawar: Police fail to nab gang of robbers
PESHAWAR: A group of armed robbers have been targetting people visiting the currency dealers in Chowk Yadgar and Ander Sheher for the last many months but police have failed to bust the gang, sources told The News.“The gangsters first slash the tyres of the vehicles parked in the underground parking lot at Chowk Yadgar,” a trader said, adding, they then follow the vehicle and rob the occupants at gunpoint after the driver stops to check the tyres.
“I was told by the currency dealer when I took money from the bazaar to be careful. When I returned I found my tyres rupturedbut I continued driving and didn’t stop out of fear,” said Javed Khan.
A dealer was robbed of Rs1.8 million on the G T Road-Ring Road Bridge after two motorcyclists intentionally rammed their bike into his car. When the dealer came out of his car, the motorcyclists snatched money from him at gunpoint and fled.
Many currency dealers in Chowk Yadgar have hired gunmen. A trader disclosed that one of the currency dealers has hired a bank vehicle, properly guarded, to bring him to his shop in the morning and drop him home in the afternoon for security reasons. Several dealers have been kidnapped in the recent past and most of them were freed after payment of huge ransom.
