Lahore: Cornered ‘robber’ shoots self
LAHORE: An alleged robber in his 30s died at Jinnah Hospital a few hours after he allegedly shot himself to avoid public wrath and police arrest near Behari Chowk in Green Town here on Monday. Police identified the robber as Kareemullah Khan, son of Noor Zada, of Mardan. The Quaid-i-Azam Industrial Estate police investigation showed that a man, Hyder, alerted the emergency police that he recognized one of the bandits who had committed robbery at his master’s house, Khurram Tareen, in Sector A-I a few months ago.
As soon as a police team reached the spot, the three suspects tried to flee on a motorcycle. Police along with some area people chased the suspects. Two robbers, however, escaped on foot while leaving the motorcycle behind. The third suspect snatched a bicycle from a person in a bid to escape, but a good number of people besieged him. The suspect then climbed up the rooftop of an under-construction house and then opened fire.
The police surrounded the house and asked the suspect to surrender. Finding no way to escape, the suspect shot a bullet in his temple. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Police seized three weapons and Rs1,500 in cash from his possession. His body was shifted for an autopsy. Police have registered a case.
