Militant held, peace activist killed in Khyber
LANDI KOTAL/KOHAT: Security forces arrested a militant on Monday during a raid in Landi Kotal area of Khyber Agency while a peace activist was killed by unidentified persons in Jamrud. Officials said that the arrested man Irshad, a resident of Karkanai, was wanted in a number of sabotage acts. He had links with a banned militant group operating in Landi Kotal, they said. They said that he was arrested from his home during the raid and shifted to an undisclosed location for investigations.
Sources said that Irshad was arrested in the light of information, provided to security forces by an Afghan national Mohammad Alam, who was arrested at Torkham border few days ago with a pistol and some cartridges. In Jamrud, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead an activist of Kukikhel Peace Committee.
Local sources said that the deceased Bulbul Shah had only recently migrated from the restive Tirah valley to Jamrud after receiving threats from militants. Local administration Militant held, peace activist killed in Khyber conducted a search operation in the area and took six Afghans into custody.
In Hangu, police claimed to have arrested three wanted militants in a raid in Naryab area on Monday. Officials said that those militants were wanted in cases of kidnapping, targeting security forces and looting passengers near the Naryab Dam. They had escaped to tribal area during the last army operation.
After receiving information that the militants had come to their homes, personnel of Doaba police station conducted operation in the area and sealed the entire area. Police said that Azam Khan, Mazeed Khan and Fareed Khan were arrested after a little resistance.
Two Kalashnikovs, a pistol and cartridges were also recovered from them. The arrested militants were handed over to joint interrogation team.
Policed also found a mutilated dead body in Mangara area of Togh Bala on Monday. Police buried the body after registration of a case.
