Karachi: DIG robbed of pistol by suspected cops
KARACHI: A Deputy Inspector General of Police was robbed of his pistol outside his house in the Darakhshan police limits on Wednesday. DIG Saleem Akhtar Siddiqi, who is currently an OSD (officer on special duty), told The News that he had been to a moneychanger in the Shahbaz Commercial area in DHA when a man, Waheed, also walked into the shop. “When I was on my way home I noticed that Waheed, accompanied by another person, was following me on a motorcycle,” DIG Siddiqi said. “When I reached home, the suspects tried to barge into my house upon which I told them that I was a DIG and pulled out my pistol,” he added.
Meanwhile, one of the accused pointed his weapon at the DIG and ordered him to hand over his money. Moreover, the other accused, carrying a Kalashnikov, struck the DIG on his arm, knocking his pistol out of his hand and entered his house.
The accused then picked up the DIG’s pistol and escaped on their motorcycle.DIG Siddiqi said that the Sindh Police Department had taken away his personal security guards about four to five years ago and they were yet to provide him with a replacement. He also claimed that the suspects were themselves policemen.
