Bahawalnagar: 15 cops held as prisoner escapes
BAHAWALNAGAR: 15 police officials including a Sub–Inspector and an Assistant Sub–Inspector were arrested following the escape of a convicted prisoner from their custody here in Chishtian the other day. According to detail, a team of the Chistian Police took a prisoner namely Abid, son of Mumtaz, a resident of Chak Natheywala, serving life term at district jail Bahawalnagar to civil court Chistian. On return, Abid slipped away from the police van handcuffs. The matter came to light when the prison officials were counting the prisoner they found Abid missing. After getting information, the district police were put on alert and a search operation was launched across the district.
However, the police could find any clue about the runaway prisoner.
Meanwhile, the Chishtian City Police booked 15 police officials under Section 155/C223/224 including Sub–Inspector Faqir Mohammad, ASI Mohammad Afzal ,constables – Azam, Rashid, Iqbal, Usman, Irfan, Sohail, Rabnawaz, Abid Ali, Aleem, Adnan, Ghulam Husain, Ibrar and Azam Ullah for negligence of duty. It had been learnt that the runaway prisoner had been convicted of 25 years in a murder case.
