Lahore: Jeweller robbed of cash, gold worth Rs60m
LAHORE: Robbers took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs60 million from a jewellery shop in Allama Iqbal Town’s Karim Block market on Thursday. Rana Tanvir told the Gulshan Iqbal police four robbers in the guise of customers entered his shop and asked the price of a gold ring. The next moment, he said, they started looting jewellery and shot at and injured his cousin Yasir on resistance. The gangsters fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs60 million. The injured was admitted to Shaikh Zayed Hospital.
A police official said the watchman was not present at the shop at the time of the robbery and his weapon was also found inside the shop. He said though the police had received an application claiming Rs60 million loss, it was still being verified.
Scores of traders in the market later protested the robbery.
In another incident, thieves stole $200, a laptop and two cell–phone sets from a car at Gulberg’s Mini Market.
