Islamabad: Murder of Hafiz Abdul Rasheed: 2 seminary students arrested
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have arrested two seminary students for their alleged involvement in the killing of renowned religious scholar Dr. Hafiz Abdul Rasheed in his house and then fleeing away with jewellery and other valuables. Addressing a press conference along with Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith Ameer Professor Sajid Mir, SP (Industrial Area Zone) Ishaq Warraich said that Dr. Hafiz Abdul Rasheed was found dead in House no. 1323, Street 90, Sector I–10/1, on March 17.
He said that his son Hafiz Saad Azhar had lodged a report with the Sabzi Mandi Police Station, stating that he was in the university when two men came to meet his father. On return from the university, he asked his mother about Dr. Hafiz Abdul Rasheed, who told him that he served food to the guests and had been with them in the guestroom for a long time.
Hafiz Saad Azhar said that their Toyota Vitz car (ICT-SA-178) was also not parked in the house and he got suspicious. Along with his mother, he peeped into the guestroom and saw a black belt around his father’s neck while his hands and feet were tied. Jewellery, cash, ATM card, mobile phones and documents were found missing from the adjacent room.
The SP said that IGP (Islamabad) Bani–Amin Khan and SSP (Islamabad) Muhammad Yousuf Malik had directed him to trace the perpetrators of the heinous crime. A police team under supervision of DSP (Industrial Area) Ashraf Shah, including Inspector Raja Rahat Javed and Sabzi Mandi Police Station SHO Asjad Mehmood worked hard to arrest the killers and also maintained close coordination with the office-bearers of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith.
The police team finally managed to trace two seminary students from the mobile record of the deceased, who were identified as Azhar Azkaar, son of Muhammad Azkaar, and Ghayasuddin, son of Muhammad Anwar.
The SP said that investigation from them revealed that they killed Dr. Hafiz Abdul Rasheed for committing robbery in his house. They took away car, cash, gold ornaments, ATM cards and other valuables from his house. They abandoned the car near Bhara Kahu due to strict checking at pickets.
On the occasion, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith Ameer Sajid Mir thanked SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik for taking special interest in resolving the case and tracing killers.
He said that performance of the special team of the Sabzi Mandi Police, especially Inspector Rahat Javed and SHO Asjad Mehmood, was laudable who remained in touch with the office-bearers and kept informing about developments in investigation.
He ruled out the possibility of any sectarian factor behind the killing and said that the Islamabad Police had worked well on all aspects, including investigation, and it should be appreciated.
