Karachi: Man killed, wife injured in Orangi Town shooting
KARACHI: A man was killed and his wife injured in an attack near the Nishan-i–Haider Chowk in Orangi Town on Sunday. Police learnt from witnesses that two men riding on a motorcycle shot Imran, 32, and his wife Kehkashan, 28, at close range, and escaped. “The woman begged the two men to spare their lives, but the attackers opened fire on them and fled,” a witness told police, who arrived at the scene after receiving information about the shooting. Members of the public called an ambulance, which took the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Imran succumbed to his wounds, said Mominabad SHO Nasir Mehmood.
In her statement, Kehkashan told police from her hospital bed that they lived in a small house situated in Orangi Town.
She said that before marrying Imran six months back, she was married to Mumtaz and had three kids with him, but she got a divorce from him over some differences.
She said that recently a proposal came for her younger sister, and they were busy in preparations for the marriage. To purchase furniture, Imran consulted Anwer alias Naatu, who worked with him in a garment factory.
On Saturday night, Anwer called Imran on his cell phone and told him to come to Sector-11E of Orangi Town on Sunday afternoon, saying he had arranged for furniture at the cheapest price.
When the couple reached the place, they phoned Anwer, who told them to wait for a while. Soon afterwards, Anwer along with a man arrived there on a motorcycle and told them to move to some place. However, he along with his pillion passenger opened fire at the couple at the Nishan-i-Haider Chowk and escaped.
SHO Mehmood said it was premature to confirm the motive behind the murder. However, he said, the statement of the woman could help the police establish the motive behind the murder.
