Prayer leader arrested in Mansehra firing case
MANSEHRA: The local police on Monday arrested a prayer leader after cancellation of his pre-arrest bail in the Eid Miladun Nabi procession firing case in February 2012. Additional Sessions Judge Abid Sarwar cancelled the pre-arrest bail of Maulana Faizul Bari and ordered the police to arrest him from the courtroom. A lower-grade employee of Education Department Mohammad Waseem was killed and 10 others had sustained injuries when two religious groups exchanged heavy fire outside the Sunehri Mosque in Loharbanda area on Karakoram Highway (KKH) during Eid Miladun Nabi procession on February 5.
Maulana Abdul Malik, the leader of rival group in his first information report had stated that Maulana Abdul Bari fired at the procession after being instigated by Member of Provincial Assembly Mufti Kifayatullah who was present inside the mosque when the incident occurred and Mohammad Waseem was killed instantly.
The two religious groups exchanged fire when the police restricted one of the groups not to proceed towards the Sunehri Masjid situated at the KKH but the precessionists broke the police cordon as a result of which the two sides exchanged fire and a man was killed and 10 others sustained injuries. The Jamiat Ulema–Islam–Fazl MPA Mufti Kifayatullah is a co–accused in the case.
