Kohat: 2 killed, ANP MNA escapes unhurt in attack
KOHAT: Two persons including an activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) were killed and four others sustained injuries in exchange of fire with armed men who attacked the vehicle of MNA Khurshid Begum in Sheikhan village on Wednesday, sources said. The husband of the ANP lawmaker also sustained injuries in the attack, they added. The sources said the Awami National Party (ANP) MNA Khurshid Begum, along with her husband and ANP district president Saeed Shah Bukhari and party workers was driving to Sheikhan village to attend a corner meeting of the party. As they entered the village a group of gunmen headed by one Mateen opened indiscriminate fire on the MNA’s vehicle at 6:30 pm.
The party activists retuned the fire and the accused, Mateen and an ANP worker Fida, were killed on the spot while lawyer Saeed Shah Bukhari, Maulana Muhammad Zahid, Wilayat Shah and Fayyaz were wounded.
The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat wherefrom Saeed Shah Bukhari was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. The police sources said that one of the ANP activists, Walayat Shah had enmity with Mateen. They said Mateen opened fire on Walayat Shah after he saw him standing along with the ANP MNA near a mosque.
Following the incident, the security forces and the police reached Sheikhan village. Meanwhile, the ANP leaders maintained it was an attack on their party MNA Khurshid Begum. In a statement, the ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and provincial president Senator Afrasiab Khattak said the attack on a woman was against the Pakhtun culture. They also prayed for the early recovery of her husband.
