Karachi: 3 get life for setting woman on fire
KARACHI: Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Shahid Hussain Chandio on Thursday sentenced Shamsul Haq, Jaffer Alam and Nelofar to life in prison for setting a woman named Rabia on fire and seriously injuring her. According to the prosecution, Rabia was married to Shamsul Haq, but her husband’s mother Nelofar and brother Jaffer Alam were unhappy with the marriage.
On May 2, 2006 they poured kerosene over Rabia and set her on fire, causing the victim serious injuries. Rabia recorded her statement against her husband and in-laws at hospital. A case was registered at the Baghdadi police station, and after the accused were unable to prove their innocence, the court convicted them and awarded a life term to each of the three.
