Lahore: 28 arrested, weapons recovered during PU hostel search operation
LAHORE: 28 suspected people were arrested, while weapons and liquor were recovered from the Punjab University (PU) hostels when police conducted a search operation in the hostels on Thursday night. According to details, Iqbal Town police division started the search operation in PU at 2am against illegal boarders and other non-student elements, which continued for more than an hour. Police recovered a pistol, liquor bottle and arrested an illegal boarder named Naeem Shahzad, relative of a student.
However, according to sources, the operation was not managed well and was partial, because of which several non-student elements managed to escape. The operation was conducted on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who finally gave heed to the demand of PU teachers of an operation against illegal boarders, non-student elements and criminal activities in PU hostels.
Meanwhile, PU ASA expressed satisfaction over the search operation conducted in the hostels, saying the operation should continue to ensure security and respect of the teachers as well as students.
