Lahore: Iqbal Town police division tops in crime against property
LAHORE: Iqbal Town police division topped in crime against property in the city during the last week, with robbers depriving around 41 citizens of cash, valuables, gold ornaments, cell phones, cars and motorcycles worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
The police officers remained busy in hunting criminals involved in the incidents of Babu Sabu Interchange attack and killing of IJT activist at a hostel of the Punjab University while the robbers took benefit of the situation and committed robberies to their satisfaction.
According to the data available with The News, around 30 citizens were looted in street crime, house robberies and theft cases while eight motorbikes and four cars were also stolen or snatched during the last week. Most of the incidents were reported in the Millat Park, Wahdat Colony and Ghulshane Ravi police limits.
On the other hand, Muslim Town and Sherakot police topped in crime against person related incidents.
Talking to this correspondent, Iqbal Town Division SP (Operations) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani claimed that, according to the monthly report of crimes, his division had always been calculated on third or fourth number. He said Iqbal Town police station and Gulshane Iqbal police limits were mostly crime-hit areas but he had devised a strategy to counter the robbers. Telling about the crime control strategy, the SP said that he used to seal one block of any locality randomly to hunt robbers. Snap checking, he added, was also helping in curtailing crimes.
To a question, the SP said that he had been ensuring the parking of vehicles at parking stands to reduce the incidents of car-and bike-lifting. The Operations Wing was also tracing criminals’ gangs, he said.
Talking about the ratio of traced incidents, SP (Investigations) Iqbal Town Division, Bilal Umar, confessed that major incidents caused delay in tracing cases of robbery. However, he added, his division was on top in submitting challans to the courts as well as in arresting top 10 and top 20 criminals of A and B-Category.
Moreover, the Model Town Police Division was second in crime against property related incidents in the city as around 38 citizens were deprived of valuables. Besides, at least seven motorcycles and eight cars were also stolen or snatched. Saddar police division was on third number with 37 reported incidents. As many as five motorcycles and two cars were also stolen or snatched. Robbers also killed a citizen, Nadeem, in the Hunjerwal police limits. A case No318/12 was registered under section 302 and 392 of PPC but the IO has so far failed to trace the killers-cum-robbers.
Incharge Investigation Hunjerwal Police, Siddique Rana, claimed that they had taken some suspects into custody and they would soon unearth the mystery behind the killing. He claimed that the modus operandi suggested that it was not a robbery-cum-murder incident as the robbers did never hide their crime.

Cantt police division was on fifth number with 30 reported incidents. At least eight motorcycles and four cars were also stolen or snatched during the week.
