Peshawar: MPA’s plea rejected in degree case
PESHAWAR: A local court has dismissed a civil suit filed by a provincial lawmaker of Awami National Party, Ateefur Rehman, and ruled that cancellation of his graduation degree by the University of Peshawar on ground of impersonation was valid and in accordance with law. Dismissing his suit, the court of Civil Judge Mohammad Rehan Samad pronounced that the evidence on record was not in support of the contentions made by the plaintiff, Mr Rehman. The University of Peshawar had cancelled his graduation degree prior to the 2008 general elections and had also disqualified him for appearing in examination for chances. The university had also fined him Rs21,000.
Mr Rehman was serving as nazim of Tehkal union council in Peshawar when he appeared in the graduation examination.
One of his opponents had filed a complaint with the university that someone else had appeared in the examination instead of him.
The committee had acquired his writing specimen and sent the same along with his answer papers for verification.
The verification report confirmed that the question papers were attempted not by him as both the hand writings did not match.
