Lahore: Co-accused in heroin smuggling case remanded
LAHORE: Customs Anti Smuggling authorities have got six days physical remand of the accused Deputy Assistant Director ASF Malik Riaz and co-accused Zafar. Riaz was caught red handed last Monday while facilitating Zafar to smuggle 4 Kg Heroin to Dubai on an international flight. Malik Riaz was very close to Chief Security Officer (CSO) Col. ® Pervez Kyani and performed as his right hand man. He added that it took five hours to get custody of the accused and that was done after Director General ASF confirmed the involvement of Collector Custom without any doubt. The DG ASF asked CSO if Riaz was clearly involved he should be handed over to Customs, customs officer said.
On Monday ASF spokesman claimed that CSO had initiated inquires against Malik Riaz on receiving complaints that he had allegedly developed contacts with drug peddlers. But when this scribe met Riaz on Wednesday and asked about any inquiry initiated against him he expressed ignorance about any such inquiry.
Accused Malik is a diabetic and hypertension patient, due to which it was established that he would not be able to pass through hard investigations.
Collector Customs said that no revelations were made by the accused so far. When this scribe tried to meet CSO at his office at the Airport he refused to meet and referred the matter to Deputy Director ASF.
Surprisingly Deputy Director also refused to comment on the issue and said that only CSO was authorised to talk to media persons.
